Overview
Registered in 1978 by M. Seaver, *Hosta* 'Sea Sprite' is a small hybrid derived from *H. 'Kabitan'. It is distinguished by narrow, lanceolate leaves of chartreuse green with gold margins, reaching 6 inches (15.2 cm) in length and 1 inch (2.5 cm) in width, with four vein pairs and slight marginal undulations.
In the Garden
This diminutive cultivar forms a compact clump 6 inches (15.2 cm) in diameter and 4 inches (10.2 cm) in height, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to light shade with consistent moisture. The gold-margined foliage pairs well with small ferns, *Heuchera*, or fine-textured groundcovers such as *Pachysandra*.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain even soil moisture; apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs may damage foliage in damp conditions, but deer typically avoid this small hosta.
