Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek of the American Hosta Society, 'Sea Sprite' is a small-sized hosta cultivar derived from an open pollination of *Hosta* 'Sea Sprite'. Its most distinctive feature is the combination of dark green leaf centers with narrow, greenish-yellow margins, creating a crisp, bicolored appearance on lance-shaped foliage.
In the Garden
This compact, mound-forming hosta reaches approximately 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and spreads to 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and is well-suited for border fronts, rock gardens, or container plantings due to its small stature. Companion plants include ferns, heucheras, and other small woodland perennials that complement its tidy habit.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor foliage regularly and employ barriers or deterrents as needed.
