Overview

Registered in 2009 by K. Walek for the American Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'Sea Nautilus' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its heavily corrugated, ovate leaves with dull green centers and light golden yellow margins, a combination that creates strong textural and color contrast.

In the Garden

'Sea Nautilus' forms a mound approximately 18 inches tall and 30 inches wide, with individual leaves reaching 7 inches in length and 5.5 inches in width. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its corrugated foliage texture is most pronounced. The gold margins hold best with some morning sun but may fade in deep shade. This cultivar pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials; its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts or shaded rock gardens.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry spells, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Sea Nautilus' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; regular monitoring and appropriate barriers are recommended in areas where these pests are prevalent.
