Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek of the American Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'Sea Gold Dust' is a medium-sized cultivar derived from *H. 'Tokudama Aureonebulosa'* (pod parent, pollen parent unknown). It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with chartreuse to golden margins, deeply corrugated and cupped surface, and glaucous bloom on the undersides.
In the Garden
'Sea Gold Dust' forms an upright to mounded clump reaching approximately 44 inches (112 cm) in diameter and 16 inches (41 cm) in height, with scapes 18 to 24 inches (46 to 61 cm) tall. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, which require protection from strong afternoon sun to maintain leaf color and prevent scorch. Its medium size and bold texture make it suitable for mid-border positions, shade gardens, or as a specimen among ferns, heucheras, and other shade perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry periods; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur, and the deeply corrugated leaves can provide shelter for slugs if not monitored.
