Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek, *Hosta* 'Sea Blue Leather' is a large, upright-mounding cultivar derived from a seedling of unknown parentage. It is distinguished by its heavily corrugated, broadly ovate leaves with a cordate base, which display a pronounced glaucous bloom on both surfaces and a blue-green margin.
In the Garden
'Sea Blue Leather' reaches a mature spread of 48 inches (121.9 cm) and a height of 23 inches (58.4 cm), with scapes rising to 30 inches (76.2 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and is well-suited to woodland borders, shaded perennial beds, or as a specimen plant. Its large, textured foliage provides strong contrast alongside finer-textured shade companions such as ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as the thick, corrugated leaves can be attractive to both pests.
