Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek of the American Hosta Society, this small-sized cultivar is a seedling of unknown parentage. Its distinguishing features include dark green leaves with creamy yellow to white margins that become progressively whiter, and a slightly shiny leaf underside.
In the Garden
With a mature spread of 28 inches (71.1 cm) and height of 11 inches (27.9 cm), 'Satin Bloomers' forms a compact, mound-like clump suitable for the front of borders or rock gardens. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical of most hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and small woodland perennials. Its small size makes it appropriate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or deterrents.
