Year registered2012
Section classII-3

Overview

Registered in 2012 from an open pollination of *Hosta* 'Paradise Joyce', 'Saratoga Sunrise' is a large hosta distinguished by its intensely corrugated, broadly ovate leaves with green centers and greenish yellow flat margins. The leaf surfaces are slightly shiny on both sides, and the plant forms a dense, mound-like clump.

In the Garden

'Saratoga Sunrise' reaches a mature spread of 38 inches (96.5 cm) and a height of 18 inches (45.7 cm), with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical of most hosta-growing zones, where the gold margins hold their color without scorching. Its substantial size and bold texture make it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of a mixed border, paired with ferns, astilbes, or other shade perennials.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug damage and may require protection in damp conditions; deer also find it palatable.
