Overview
Registered in 2009 by originator G. Krossa, *Hosta* 'Saginaw' is a small, variegated cultivar of unknown parentage. Its distinctive appearance arises from light green, slightly rippled leaf margins combined with a dull upper surface and a notably very shiny underside, set on a compact, flat mound.
In the Garden
With a mature diameter of 11 inches (27.9 cm) and height of 8 inches (20.3 cm), 'Saginaw' forms a low, flat mound suitable for the front of a shaded border or rock garden. Its small size and moderate growth rate make it an appropriate choice for container cultivation or as an edging plant in partial to full shade. Companion plants could include other small hostas or fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns or heucheras.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage, particularly in shaded, moist sites.
