Overview

Registered in 2010 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Sutter's Mill', 'Sacramento' is a large, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with broad, golden yellow margins. The leaves are thick in substance, ovate with cordate bases, and bear a glaucous bloom on both surfaces; the chimeral variegation reverses the color pattern of *Hosta* 'California Gold Rush'.

In the Garden

'Sacramento' reaches a mature spread of 45 inches (114.3 cm) and a height of 22 inches (55.9 cm), forming a dense, moderate-growing mound. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold margins hold their color without scorching, and is suitable for typical hosta-growing zones. The large, corrugated leaves pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade perennials; the plant's substantial size makes it effective as a specimen or in mixed borders.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like many thick-leaved hostas, 'Sacramento' shows moderate resistance to slugs, though standard preventive measures are advisable in damp conditions.
