Overview

Registered in 1999 by the Russ O'Harra Hosta Society, 'Russell Lee' is a large, mound-forming hosta distinguished by its medium blue-green leaves with broad, light green, slightly rippled margins. The foliage exhibits a glaucous bloom on the upper surface and a dull finish beneath, with cordate leaf bases and 14 pairs of veins.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches a mature diameter of 46 inches (116.8 cm) and a height of 20 inches (50.8 cm), forming a dense, rounded mound. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or mid-border accent in woodland gardens.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While moderately resistant to slugs, monitor for damage in damp conditions; deer may browse foliage in areas with high pressure.
