Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek for the American Hosta Society, this large cultivar of unknown parentage is distinguished by its broadly ovate, blue-green leaves with moderately rippled margins and a prominent glaucous bloom on both surfaces. The leaves reach 10.5 inches (26.7 cm) in length and 7 inches (17.8 cm) in width, with 15 pairs of veins, and form a dense, mound-like plant.
In the Garden
'Hosta 'Ruffles Galore' performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage maintains its glaucous quality. Mature plants form substantial mounds approximately 24 to 30 inches (61 to 76 cm) tall and 36 to 48 inches (91 to 122 cm) wide, with scapes rising 30 to 36 inches (76 to 91 cm) above the foliage. It pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade perennials that complement its broad, textured leaves, and is suitable for borders, woodland gardens, or as a specimen plant.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, it may require protection from slugs and deer in garden settings.
