Overview
Registered in 2004 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Gold Standard', 'Royal Golden Jubilee' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with irregular gold margins. The leaf center emerges yellow and holds this golden coloration throughout the growing season, while the dark green, slightly rippled margins provide strong contrast. The broadly ovate leaves, measuring 8 inches long and 6 inches wide, are lightly cupped with a cordate base and bear a glaucous bloom on the undersides.
In the Garden
'Royal Golden Jubilee' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching approximately 16 inches in height and 30 inches in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial shade to filtered sun, where the gold leaf centers remain most vivid; excessive sun may scorch the foliage. The medium green scapes rise 28 to 36 inches above the foliage, bearing lavender flowers in midsummer. This cultivar pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials, and its compact size suits the front of borders or mixed shade beds.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While slugs may damage young foliage, the thick leaf texture offers moderate resistance; deer browsing remains a potential issue in typical hosta-growing zones.
