Overview

Registered in 1988 by R. Savory, this medium-sized variegated hosta arose as a hybrid of *H.* 'Pearl Lake'. 'Rotunda' is distinguished by its nearly round leaves—six inches both in length and width—with medium green margins and a lighter center, forming a dense, symmetrical mound.

In the Garden

With a mature spread of 35 inches (88.9 cm) and height of 20 inches (50.8 cm), 'Rotunda' is suited to the middle of a shaded border or as a groundcover under deciduous trees. It performs best in partial to full shade and pairs well with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its compact, rounded habit also makes it appropriate for larger containers.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry spells. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor and manage as needed.
