Overview

Registered in 2009 by D. Beilstein and M. Zilis, 'Rotini' is a medium-sized hosta distinguished by its heavily corrugated, blue-green foliage that retains a glaucous bloom on both leaf surfaces. The ovate leaves with cordate bases and medium blue-green margins give the plant a textured, dense appearance.

In the Garden

'Rotini' forms a slow-growing, mound-like clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where its glaucous coating remains most intact. The moderate corrugation and substantial leaf size (9.5 inches long, 6 inches wide) make it suitable for mid-border positions or as a textural accent among ferns, heucheras, and other shade perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, corrugated leaves show moderate resistance to slug damage, though monitoring is advisable in wet seasons. Deer may browse young foliage.
