Overview
Registered in 2000, this small hosta cultivar originated as a hybrid of the unnamed seedling *H. 'RD-BS'. *Hosta 'Rosedale Paddy Wagon' is visually distinctive for its dark green leaf centers framed by narrow, creamy white margins. The leaves measure 4 inches (10.2 cm) in length and 2 inches (5.1 cm) in width, with the white margin approximately 0.25 inches (0.6 cm) wide.
In the Garden
As a small hosta, 'Rosedale Paddy Wagon' reaches a mature clump size of roughly 8 to 12 inches in height and 12 to 18 inches in spread. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the white margins remain most distinct. This compact habit makes it well suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders, and it pairs effectively with small ferns, heucheras, or woodland groundcovers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas with high pest pressure.
