Overview
Registered in 1999, this medium-sized cultivar resulted from a cross between *Hosta* 'Galaxy' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Fragrant Bouquet' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its intensely blue-green leaves with streaked margins, a glaucous bloom on the undersides, and a mound-like growth habit that reaches 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 33 inches (83.8 cm) in diameter.
In the Garden
With a slow growth rate and mature dimensions of roughly 12 inches tall by 33 inches wide, 'Rosedale Marsha Axmear Erb' forms a dense, rounded clump suitable for the middle to front of a shaded border. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its compact size also makes it appropriate for container culture in shaded patio settings.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
