Overview
Registered in 1999 by an unknown breeder, 'Rosedale Golden Dipper' is a large hosta distinguished by its greenish-yellow leaves with broad, creamy white margins. The cordate leaf base and slight rippling along the margin contribute to its visual character, while the dull surface texture on both sides sets it apart from glossier cultivars.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature size of approximately 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height and 25 inches (63.5 cm) in diameter, with an upright growth habit and slow rate of expansion. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its muted foliage. Its large size makes it suitable as a specimen plant or in the middle to back of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate deterrents may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
