Overview

Registered in 1999, 'Rosedale Golden Chips' is a small hosta cultivar of unknown breeder, resulting from self-pollination of the parent clone 'RD-BS-1'. It is visually distinctive for its green leaves with broad, clear yellow margins that contrast sharply against the darker leaf center.

In the Garden

This small hosta reaches a mature size of approximately 5.5 inches (14.0 cm) in leaf length and 5 inches (12.7 cm) in leaf width, forming a compact clump with a slow growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and is well suited for rock gardens, woodland edges, or the front of shaded borders. Its small stature makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation or trough gardens. Companion plants might include small ferns, heucheras, or miniature sedges that share similar light and moisture requirements.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Monitor for slug and deer damage, as both are common pests of hostas in typical growing regions.
