Overview
Registered in 1999, *Hosta* 'Rosedale Glacier Ice' is a small-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Allan P. McConnell'* and *H. 'Yakushima Mizu'*. Its visual distinction lies in the blue-green leaves with medium green, slightly rippled margins and a glaucous bloom on the undersides, giving the foliage a muted, cool-toned appearance.
In the Garden
This slow-growing, mound-forming plant reaches approximately 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and 37 inches (94.0 cm) in diameter at maturity. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its compact size makes it well-suited for rock gardens, woodland borders, or container plantings. Companion plants such as ferns, heucheras, or small sedges complement its subdued foliage color.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur, so monitoring and protective measures are advisable in vulnerable gardens.
