Overview
Originating from the cross of *Hosta* 'Galaxy' (seed parent) and *Hosta* 'Elegans' (pollen parent), 'Rosedale Dewy' was registered in 1999. This large cultivar is distinguished by its broad, cordate leaves of medium blue-green, which bear a pronounced glaucous bloom on both surfaces, lending a dewy, matte appearance.
In the Garden
'Rosedale Dewy' forms an upright, slow-growing clump reaching approximately 21 inches (53.3 cm) in height and 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter. Its substantial foliage, with leaves 8 inches (20.3 cm) long and wide, makes it suitable as a specimen or accent in part-shade to shade borders. The blue-green leaves pair well with golden or chartreuse-foliaged companions, such as *Hosta* 'Sum and Substance' or *Carex elata* 'Aurea'. Its large size precludes container culture for most situations.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. As with most hostas, protect from deer and monitor for slug damage, particularly on the glaucous leaf surfaces.
