Overview
Registered in 1999, *Hosta* 'Rosedale Brush Marks' is a small-sized cultivar derived from self-pollination of the seedling *H.* 'RD-93'. It is visually distinctive for its dark green leaves with creamy white margins that appear streaked or brushed into the green interior, a pattern reflected in its cultivar name.
In the Garden
This small hosta reaches a mature size of approximately 5 inches (12.7 cm) in leaf length and 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) in width, forming a compact clump suitable for the front of borders or rock gardens. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of the genus, and pairs well with other small shade perennials such as *Heuchera* or ferns. Its diminutive stature also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate protective measures may be necessary in affected gardens.
