Overview

Registered in 2000, *Hosta* 'Rosedale Blunder Bus' is a medium-sized variegated cultivar derived from the cross *H.* 'RD-BS' × *H.* '785'. It is visually distinctive for its leaves, which reach 7 inches (17.8 cm) in length and 6 inches (15.2 cm) in width, and feature streaked margins that create a mottled or irregular variegation pattern.

In the Garden

As a medium-sized hosta, 'Rosedale Blunder Bus' forms a clump approximately 18 to 24 inches (46–61 cm) in height and 24 to 36 inches (61–91 cm) in spread at maturity. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the variegated leaf margins are less prone to scorching. This cultivar pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials; its medium stature makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, 'Rosedale Blunder Bus' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; use appropriate deterrents if these pests are prevalent in the garden.
