Year registered1999
Section classIII-2

Overview

Registered in 1999, this medium-sized cultivar was hybridized from *Hosta* 'Galaxy' (seed parent) and *Hosta* 'Elegans' (pollen parent). Its most distinctive feature is the intensely blue-green leaf surface, produced by a heavy glaucous bloom on both the upper and lower surfaces, which gives the foliage a dark, matte appearance.

In the Garden

The plant forms an upright mound reaching 23 inches (58.4 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, with a slow growth rate. The cordate leaves are 7 inches (17.8 cm) long and wide, with 16 pairs of veins. This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the glaucous bloom is best preserved. It pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade perennials that contrast with its broad, dark foliage. Its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, glaucous leaves show moderate resistance to slug damage, though standard slug control measures are recommended in damp conditions. Deer may browse the foliage in areas where they are present.
