Overview
Registered in 1996 by P. Ruh, this miniature hosta forms a compact mound of narrow, blue-green leaves with slightly rippled margins. The foliage is dull on the upper surface and notably shiny beneath, with flat leaf bases and four pairs of veins per leaf.
In the Garden
'Hocknoll Blue Dwarf' reaches approximately 9 inches (22.9 cm) in diameter and 3 inches (7.6 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, and its small stature makes it well suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border. The deep green scapes rise 11 to 22 inches (27.9 to 55.9 cm) above the foliage.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage the foliage, so monitoring and protective measures are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
