Overview
Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Rock Concert' is a small-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between a streaked sport of *H.* 'Summer Music' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Beer Belly Blues' (pollen parent). Its most distinctive feature is the intensely blue-green leaf surface, which is heavily streaked with varying shades of blue-green and exhibits a very shiny upper surface, creating a metallic or lacquered appearance.
In the Garden
'Rock Concert' forms an upright, moderate-growing clump reaching 19 inches (48.3 cm) in height and 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to light shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where its glossy foliage is protected from midday sun. The compact size makes it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings, where it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or small ornamental grasses.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, corrugated leaves offer moderate resistance to slugs, though monitoring is advisable in damp conditions; deer may browse the foliage in typical hosta-growing zones.
