Overview

Registered in 1988 by K. Vaughn, this medium-sized hosta cultivar is a hybrid of *H.* 'Summer Fragrance' and an *H.* 'Aztec Treasure' hybrid. 'Rising Sun' is visually distinguished by its green leaves with broad, lemon-yellow margins and a glossy upper surface.

In the Garden

Mature plants reach approximately 28 inches (71.1 cm) in height and 34 inches (86.4 cm) in diameter, with leaves 10 inches (25.4 cm) long and 5.5 inches (14.0 cm) wide. The scapes rise 35 to 38 inches (88.9 to 96.5 cm) tall. This cultivar performs best in partial to dappled shade, as is typical for hostas, and benefits from consistent moisture. Its medium size makes it suitable for mixed shade borders or as a groundcover in woodland gardens. Companion plants include ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide regular water during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may cause damage and should be managed as needed.
