Overview

Registered in 2009 by K. Walek for the American Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'Richland Gold Splash' is a medium-sized sport of *Hosta* 'Richland Gold'. It is visually distinctive for its golden yellow to blue-green leaves marked with irregular white streaking, a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, and slightly rippled margins.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a mound-like clump reaching approximately 12 to 15 inches in height and 24 to 30 inches in width, with leaves 6 inches (15.2 cm) long and 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green tones and white streaking remain most pronounced. Its broadly ovate, lightly corrugated leaves with cordate bases and 10 to 12 vein pairs make it suitable for shaded borders, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in mixed perennial beds.

Care Notes

Plant in moist, well-drained soil and water regularly during dry periods; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
