Overview

Registered in 2009 by K. Walek for the American Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'Richard Taylor' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Sum and Substance'* and *H. 'Don Stevens'*. It is distinguished by its broadly ovate, blue-green leaves with bright green, slightly rippled margins and a glaucous bloom on the undersides.

In the Garden

'Richard Taylor' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching approximately 23 inches (58.4 cm) in height and 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its substantial leaf size makes it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders. The blue-green foliage pairs well with golden or chartreuse companions such as *H. 'June'* or ferns.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are recommended, as the broad leaves may be attractive to both pests.
