Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek of the American Hosta Society, 'Ribbon Candy' is a small hosta cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its inconsistent variegation, producing green leaves with creamy white streaks and margins, with some leaves appearing nearly all white.
In the Garden
This small hosta forms a mound-like clump reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 21 inches (53.3 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its variegated foliage remains crisp, and pairs well with other small shade perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or miniature hostas.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry spells, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Ribbon Candy' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in gardens where these pests are prevalent.
