Overview
Registered in 2015 by B. & V. Skaggs and M. Gilligan, 'Remembrance' is a medium-sized hosta selected from a streaked sport. Its most distinctive feature is the intense blue-green leaf center framed by golden yellow margins, a color combination that remains vivid through the growing season.
In the Garden
'Remembrance' reaches 11 inches (27.9 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with an upright, moderate growth habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green leaf centers hold their color and the golden margins do not scorch. The rounded, heavily corrugated leaves with 11 to 12 vein pairs provide textural contrast when paired with fine-textured ferns or broad-leaved epimediums. Its medium size suits the middle of a shaded border or the front of a woodland garden.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, glaucous leaves offer moderate resistance to slugs, but standard control measures may be needed in persistently wet conditions. Deer browse hostas in typical hosta-growing zones and may damage young foliage.
