Year registered1994
Section classII-6b

Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Krossa Regal' registered in 1994, 'Regal Providence' forms a large, semi-upright clump distinguished by its blue-green leaves with a pronounced glaucous bloom on both surfaces and a medium blue-green, smooth margin. The foliage is substantial, each leaf reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in length and 7 inches (17.8 cm) in width, with ten pairs of veins and a rounded base.

In the Garden

'Regal Providence' reaches a mature size of 30 inches (76.2 cm) in both height and diameter, making it suitable for mid-border or specimen placement in partial to full shade. Its blue-green foliage pairs well with yellow- or gold-leaved companions such as *Hosta* 'Sum and Substance' or *Hakonechloa macra* 'Aureola'. The tall scapes, reaching 40 to 48 inches (101.6 to 121.9 cm), carry pale lavender flowers above the mound in midsummer.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, 'Regal Providence' is susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing; protective measures may be necessary in typical hosta-growing zones.
