Overview

Registered in 2003 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Krossa Regal', 'Regal Heir' is a large, fast-growing cultivar distinguished by its upright, cascading habit and blue-green leaves with white margins. The leaf blades exhibit unstable streaks and mottling of greenish white and creamy white, particularly along slightly rippled margins, while the leaf surface remains dull on both sides.

In the Garden

'Regal Heir' reaches approximately 30 inches (76.2 cm) in height and 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter, making it suitable as a specimen or accent in partial to full shade. Its upright form and heavy-substance leaves pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade perennials that contrast its blue-green and white variegation. The plant's cascading foliage is especially effective at the front of borders or on slopes where the leaf display can be appreciated.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Regal Heir' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in typical hosta-growing zones.
