Overview
Registered in 2000 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Krossa Regal', 'Regal Chameleon' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with white margins and a prominent glaucous bloom on both surfaces. The leaves measure 10 inches (25.4 cm) in length and 6 inches (15.2 cm) in width, with 12 to 13 vein pairs, flat margins, and a cordate base.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a substantial clump reaching 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter and 34 inches (86.4 cm) in height, with scapes rising 48 to 60 inches (121.9 to 152.4 cm) above the foliage. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green leaf color and white margins are most pronounced. The upright, vase-shaped habit inherited from 'Krossa Regal' makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen plant, pairing well with ferns and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitoring and protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
