Overview

Registered in 2010 by R. Kuenster, 'Reddy Eddy' is a small hosta cultivar distinguished by its dark green, very shiny leaves with slightly rippled margins and a prominent dark red petiole. The ovate leaves have a cordate base and pointed tip, with a lightly twisted and wavy form.

In the Garden

'Reddy Eddy' forms an upright, moderate-growing clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 26 inches (66.0 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its compact size makes it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Companion plants include ferns, heucheras, and other small shade perennials.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring with a balanced slow-release fertilizer. While hostas are generally susceptible to slugs and deer, 'Reddy Eddy' shows no exceptional resistance and may require protection in areas with high pest pressure.
