Overview
Registered in 2016, *Hosta* 'Reddish Dot' is a small, fast-growing cultivar derived from a cross between *H. 'Patrician'* and *H. plantaginea*. It is visually distinctive for its reddish purple speckled petioles, erect scapes bearing reddish dots, and deep purple flowers that appear in late summer.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a mound-like clump reaching approximately 33.5 inches (85.1 cm) in diameter and 16.5 inches (41.9 cm) in height. Its leaves are ovate with a tapered base, green (143A) with slightly rippled margins, and moderately wavy overall; each leaf measures about 7 inches (17.8 cm) long and 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) wide, with 6 to 7 vein pairs and a slightly shiny surface on both sides. As a small hosta, it is well suited for front-of-border positions, rock gardens, or container culture, and pairs readily with other shade-tolerant perennials in typical hosta-growing zones.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hostas.
