Overview
Registered in 2015 by J. Moore and J. Schwarz, this medium-sized variegated hosta arose from a cross between *H. 'Almost'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Katsuragawa Beni'* (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its medium green, slightly rippled leaves with a pronounced tip, a slight shine on the upper surface, and maroon-speckled petioles that extend into the leaf veins.
In the Garden
'Hosta 'Red Corvette' reaches a mature diameter of 18 inches (45.7 cm) and a height of 13 inches (33.0 cm), with an upright, moderate growth habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its variegated foliage and speckled stems are most pronounced. This cultivar pairs well with other medium hostas or shade perennials such as ferns and heucheras, and its compact size makes it suitable for container culture.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in gardens where these pests are prevalent.
