Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Raspberry Sorbet', 'Raspberry Meringue' was registered in 2003 and is distinguished by its unusual center coloration: greenish-yellow leaf centers framed by narrow, dark green, heavily rippled margins. This small, mound-forming cultivar reaches 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and spreads to 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with a notably slow growth rate.

In the Garden

'Raspberry Meringue' is suited for partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and performs well in rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders due to its compact size. Its small stature and slow growth make it an excellent candidate for container cultivation. Companion plants should be chosen to complement the unusual greenish-gold leaf centers, such as dark-leaved heucheras or fine-textured ferns.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, 'Raspberry Meringue' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor for pests and take protective measures as needed.
