Overview
Registered in 2010 by R. Kuenster of the American Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'Rainbow Delight' is a small-sized cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinguished by its green leaves with creamy white and yellow streaked margins, combined with slightly rippled, lightly twisted, and lightly corrugated leaf surfaces.
In the Garden
'Rainbow Delight' forms a low, mound-like clump reaching 8 inches (20.3 cm) in height and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter, with a slow growth rate. It is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones and performs well in rock gardens, small borders, or as a container specimen due to its compact size. Companion plants may include small ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its muted green and cream coloration.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor regularly and take protective measures if needed.
