Overview

Registered in 2004, *Hosta* 'Radio Waves' is a small, fast-growing cultivar derived from *H.* 'Shining Tot' (pod parent, pollen parent unknown). It is visually distinctive for its lance-shaped, blue-green leaves with deeply wavy, moderately twisted margins that transition to green, and a narrow, light green edge measuring 0.6 to 1.0 cm (0.25 to 0.4 in) wide.

In the Garden

'Radio Waves' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 15.2 cm (6 in) in height and 43.2 cm (17 in) in diameter. It is suited to partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones, where its small size and unique leaf texture make it an effective groundcover or edging plant. It pairs well with other small hostas, ferns, or shade-tolerant perennials, and is suitable for container cultivation due to its modest dimensions.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor and manage as needed.
