Overview
Registered in 1985 by M. Soules, this giant blue-green hosta is a hybrid of *H. sieboldiana* and *H.* 'Frances Williams'. It is visually distinctive for its heavily textured, deeply quilted leaves with silvery blue margins and a broad, blue-green center.
In the Garden
'Quilted Skies' reaches a mature size of 48 inches (122 cm) in diameter and 26 inches (66 cm) in height, with leaf blades up to 13.25 inches (34 cm) long and 10.75 inches (27 cm) wide. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its thick foliage resists scorching. The substantial leaves and tall scapes (29–30 inches, 74–76 cm) make it a strong specimen plant for woodland borders or as a groundcover under deciduous trees.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the first growing season. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick leaves offer moderate slug resistance, but standard slug control measures are advisable in damp conditions; deer may browse the foliage.
