Overview

Registered in 1980 by E. Minks, 'Quilted Cup' is a medium-sized hosta resulting from a cross between *H. 'Tokudama'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Crinkle Cup'* (pollen parent). Its most distinctive features are the heavily textured, quilted blue-green leaves with narrow blue-green margins, and the cupped leaf form that gives the cultivar its name.

In the Garden

'Quilted Cup' reaches a mature height of 15 inches (38.1 cm) with a spread of 24 inches (61.0 cm), making it suitable for middle-border positions in shaded or partially shaded beds. The dense, mounding habit pairs well with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade-tolerant perennials. It performs best in humus-rich, well-drained soil and is not recommended for container culture due to its medium size.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry spells to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor foliage for signs of feeding and apply controls as needed. This cultivar is hardy in typical hosta-growing zones.
