Overview

Registered in 2009 by K. Walek, *Hosta* 'Quill' is a miniature hybrid derived from *H. pycnophylla* (pod parent) and *H. yingeri* (pollen parent). The cultivar is distinguished by its narrow, lanceolate leaves with twisted, wavy margins and a medium blue-green coloration, forming a semi-upright mound.

In the Garden

'Hosta' forms a compact mound 11 inches (27.9 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border. Its small size and semi-upright habit allow it to be grown in containers or as an edging plant in partial to full shade. Companion plants may include small ferns, *Heuchera*, or *Tiarella*.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, though the narrow, twisted leaves may be less palatable than broader-leaved cultivars.
