Overview

Registered in 1999 with the American Hosta Society, 'Question Mark' is a small-sized hosta cultivar of unknown parentage. Its distinctive foliage features dark green leaves with creamy white, slightly rippled margins, forming a compact, mound-like habit.

In the Garden

Reaching approximately 6 inches (15.2 cm) in height and 12.5 inches (31.8 cm) in diameter, this slow-growing cultivar is well-suited for shaded borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Its moderate growth rate and small stature make it an effective edging plant or accent in woodland settings, where it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. 'Question Mark' performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hosta-growing zones.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor foliage regularly and take protective measures if necessary.
