Overview
Registered in 2012 as an open-pollinated seedling of *Hosta* 'Inniswood', 'Ovalwood' is a large, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its nearly round, deeply corrugated leaves with a blue-green surface and prominent glaucous bloom on both sides. The flat leaf margins and heavy rugosity, combined with an oval leaf shape, create a textured, substantial foliage presence.
In the Garden
' Ovalwood' reaches a mature spread of 45 inches (114 cm) and a height of 19 inches (48 cm), with scapes rising 19 to 24 inches (48 to 61 cm) above the foliage. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, where its blue-green leaves hold color well. The moderate growth rate and dense mound form make it suitable for woodland borders, shade gardens, or as a specimen plant; its large size pairs effectively with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While the thick, corrugated leaves offer some resistance, slug and deer damage may occur and should be monitored.
