Overview

Registered in 2003 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Outer Limits', 'Outer Space' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its heavily puckered and corrugated ovate leaves. The foliage presents a light green center with a wide (0.5 in / 1.3 cm), white, heavily rippled margin, and undergoes a unique color transition from a white edge to a two-toned green as the season progresses.

In the Garden

Reaching a mature diameter of 15 inches (38.1 cm) and a height of 10 inches (25.4 cm), this mound-forming hosta is best suited for partial to full shade, as is typical for the genus. Its compact size and moderate growth rate make it an excellent choice for the front of a border, rock gardens, or container plantings, where its deeply cupped and corrugated texture can be appreciated up close. Companion plants with contrasting fine foliage, such as ferns or *Heuchera*, complement its bold leaf form.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as both pests may damage the foliage.
