Overview
Registered in 2003, 'Oracle' is a giant hosta cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its upright, substantial habit and large, broadly ovate leaves with medium green, slightly rippled margins and a slightly shiny upper surface.
In the Garden
'Oracle' reaches 30 inches (76.2 cm) in height and spreads to a comparable width, forming a bold, upright clump. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and its large, glossy leaves provide strong textural contrast when paired with ferns, astilbes, or fine-leaved perennials. Its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or as a backdrop in a shaded border; it is not recommended for container culture due to its mature dimensions.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage the foliage, particularly in moist conditions, and appropriate control measures should be considered.
