Overview

Registered in 2003, *Hosta* 'On Parade' is a small-sized cultivar notable for its tricolor effect: a creamy white leaf center framed by medium green margins, with pink-red petioles and scapes. The pod parent is *H.* 'Pin Stripe Sister'; the pollen parent is unknown.

In the Garden

Mature plants form a compact mound 5 inches (12.7 cm) tall and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. Leaves are ovate, flat, and slightly shiny on both surfaces, measuring 3 inches (7.6 cm) long by 2 inches (5.1 cm) wide with 4 to 5 vein pairs; the creamy white center is approximately 0.5 inches (1.3 cm) wide, bordered by a medium green margin of equal width. The scape reaches 11 to 15 inches (27.9 to 38.1 cm) and is pink-red. This small cultivar is well suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border, and performs best in typical hosta-growing zones with consistent moisture and partial to full shade.

Care Notes

Provide regular water during dry periods and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs may damage the foliage, and deer may browse the leaves; monitor and manage as needed.
