Overview
Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Olympic Torch' is a medium-sized cultivar derived from *Hosta* 'Kevin Kelley' as the pod parent, with an unknown pollen parent. Its most distinctive feature is an ascending spiral of upright, intensely twisted and folded leaves that rise in a flame-like formation, with green centers and greenish yellow, slightly rippled margins.
In the Garden
'Olympic Torch' reaches a mature height of 24 inches (61.0 cm) and a spread of 36 inches (91.4 cm), with an upright growth habit and moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its unusual twisted foliage makes it a focal point in shaded borders or woodland gardens. The light green scapes, reaching 30 to 42 inches (76.2 to 106.7 cm), carry flowers above the foliage, and the plant pairs well with ferns or other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protect from deer and monitor for slug damage, particularly on the deeply cupped and corrugated leaves.
