Overview
Registered in 2008 by P. & J. Ruh, this small hosta cultivar is distinguished by its unusual coloration: medium green leaves with a broad, greenish-yellow center and a slightly rippled, medium green margin. The leaf surface is very shiny above and slightly shiny beneath, with an ovate shape and cordate base.
In the Garden
'Hosta 'Olive Branch' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching approximately 11 inches (28.6 cm) in height and 26 inches (65.4 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for the genus, and is well-suited for rock gardens, container culture, or the front of shaded borders. Its small size and distinctive leaf pattern pair well with fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns or heucheras.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, though its small stature may make it easier to protect with barriers or repellents.
