Overview
Registered in 2004 by P. & J. Ruh, this small, mound-forming cultivar is a sport of *Hosta* 'Lancifolia'. It is visually distinctive for its lance-shaped leaves with medium green, slightly rippled margins, a slightly shiny upper surface, and a notably very shiny underside, which gives the foliage a bicolored appearance.
In the Garden
'Hosta 'Olga's Shiny Leaf' reaches a mature size of approximately 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 29 inches (73.7 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It is suitable for typical hosta-growing zones in partial to full shade, where its compact habit and glossy leaf undersides are best appreciated. Its small size makes it an excellent choice for rock gardens, the front of borders, or container plantings, where it pairs well with other small perennials such as ferns or heucheras.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may cause damage and should be managed as needed.
